Every month the Football Supporters’ Federation features an affiliate or associate member to highlight good work carried out by fans. If you'd like to appear email firstname.lastname@example.org . This month it's the turn of Birmingham City Ladies FC Supporters Club, we spoke to Chairman Mark Farnell...
Birmingham City Ladies Supporters Club was formed in 2011 from a group of fans who had followed the team for a number of years, the team helped form the Women's Super League (WSL).
It has grown from half-a-dozen members to over fifty in two years. As the sport has grown in popularity we have travelled home and away with the club.
We've also played in Europe where Birmingham (along with Arsenal) have represented England in the UEFA Women's Champions League over the last two seasons. The clubs faced each other in this season's quarter-finals in March 2014.
With members spread out from Yorkshire to Sussex and our first European member in Finland our aims are to help provide transport to away and home games where possible, liaise with the club to get the best opportunities for supporters, sort out any problems that may arise, and help promote the club and sport.
For a modest membership fee members also get a regular e-newsletter produced by the Chairman featuring all the news on matches, players both past and present, directions to grounds for those travelling to away games and so on.
We also have an active Facebook page, Twitter @bclfcsc and have over the last three seasons presented a Supporters Club Player of the Season award. With the club moving nearer to the city for 2014 season (playing at Solihull Moors FC) we are hoping to continue to build on our success as the first official ladies football supporters club...new members always welcome.
